Chessington World of Adventures Resort is seeking a proactive and pragmatic Health & Safety Manager to support the Health & Safety Director in promoting a positive and fair safety culture across the Resort. The role is responsible for helping to maintain high standards of health and safety across the Park, Hotels and year-round projects by embedding and maintaining an effective safety management system aligned with Merlin Group strategy and legal requirements.

 

You will work closely with managers, employees, contractors and key stakeholders to ensure safe operations throughout the Resort, providing practical, enabling health and safety advice. The role includes leading and developing the Health & Safety Team, ensuring strong engagement, performance management and 24/7 Safety On-Call cover through a managed rota. You will oversee incident, accident and near-miss investigations, ensure statutory reporting is completed, manage personal accident claims, and support internal and third-party audit activity to drive continuous improvement.

 

You will analyse safety trends, support the development of safety plans, help prioritise safety-related capital investments, and provide subject matter expertise across the business. The role also involves deputising for the Health & Safety Director and participating in on-call duties as required.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2–4 years’ experience delivering health and safety in a visitor-facing industry

  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)

  • NVQ Level 6, NEBOSH Diploma, or working towards (preferred)

  • Commitment to maintaining CPD and staying up to date with legislation, case law, Group policy, industry developments and good practice

  • Ability to communicate clearly and influence effectively at all levels

  • Approachable, with a strong belief in an open-door culture for managers and employees

  • Strong presentation, written communication and report-writing skills
