We’re now on the lookout for an exceptional Charities Finance Director to bring financial leadership and strategic vision to Merlin’s charitable initiatives.

 

The Role

As Charities Finance Director, you’ll provide strategic oversight of financial management and governance for Merlin’s charities. A vital part of the senior leadership team, you’ll ensure financial health and resilience, while shaping structures to support future growth and impact.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all financial and legal activities, ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
  • Manage and develop a small but high-impact finance team.
  • Implement disciplined cashflow management, forecasting and reporting to support long-term growth.
  • Promote strong governance practices and an internal culture that minimises risk.
  • Build relationships across Merlin’s finance network to champion commercial awareness and identify growth opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant with robust experience in both Financial and Management Accounting.
  • Proven understanding of charitable operations within a global framework.
  • Commercially minded with board-level influence and hands-on problem-solving ability.
  • Skilled in financial systems with a knack for presenting data effectively.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and control costs.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills across all levels.
  • Willingness to support the wider finance team at a transactional level when needed.
