Now, we’re looking for a dynamic Communications Director – UK to help promote and protect the reputation of Merlin’s attractions and brands across the UK.

 

The Opportunity

 

This is a high-impact, strategic leadership role at the heart of Merlin’s global communications function.
As our UK Communications Director, you’ll work closely with the VP Global Corporate Affairs to grow and protect Merlin’s reputation, and that of its constituent brands and attractions, across the UK - driving excellence in PR and media relations, stakeholder engagement and crisis management.

 

You’ll lead a talented UK communications team and act as a trusted business advisor to regional leaders, ensuring that all activity reflects Merlin’s brand values and supports our long-term business priorities.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide senior communications counsel to the UK Managing Director and leadership teams.
  • Align all communications activity with local attraction and UK business priorities.
  • Lead a UK PR team of 8 individuals.  
  • Manage budgets, agencies and resources to deliver maximum value and impact.

External Communications

  • Lead all PR and media relations across UK attractions and brands.
  • Build and protect Merlin’s reputation through proactive storytelling.
  • Oversee issue and crisis management for Merlin’s UK attractions and brands, ensuring a consistent and professional response.
  • Strengthen relationships with national and regional media, industry bodies and key stakeholders.

Public Affairs & Community Relations

  • Work with the Global Director of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs to partner with government, regulators and community groups to support our growth agenda.
  • Advocate for Merlin’s positive contribution to UK tourism, employment and local communities.
  • Guide site teams on stakeholder engagement and local advocacy.

Qualifications & Experience

You’ll bring:

  • 10+ years’ experience in PR  within complex, high-profile organisations.
  • A proven ability to manage media relations and stakeholder engagement at a senior level.
  • Strong issue and crisis management expertise with the confidence to advise leaders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with sharp strategic judgement.
  • Experience leading teams, developing people and managing budgets effectively.
  • A collaborative mindset able to influence, partner and deliver across diverse stakeholders.
