Alton Towers Resort is seeking a Technical Services Director to provide strategic leadership across all engineering, maintenance, facilities, compliance and infrastructure functions at one of the UK’s most iconic attractions.

This pivotal role ensures the safety, reliability, and long-term performance of our critical assets from world-class theme park rides and hotels to landscaped grounds, water systems, heritage estate and technical infrastructure. You’ll also lead and oversee our external partners delivering facilities, cleaning, landscaping and waste services, making sure their work enhances both the guest experience and our sustainability goals.

As a key member of the Resort Senior Leadership Team, you’ll shape the guest journey, drive innovation in technical services and safeguard the resilience of our estate for generations to come.

What you’ll be doing

• Setting and delivering the multi-year engineering and infrastructure strategy.
• Leading governance and compliance for all engineering, H&S and statutory frameworks.
• Overseeing ride engineering, facilities, and infrastructure to ensure reliability and innovation.
• Driving lifecycle asset management, capital investment and sustainability improvements.
• Managing contracts and supplier partnerships to deliver quality, efficiency and guest satisfaction.
• Supporting seasonal events with technical readiness and rapid response planning.
• Conserving heritage assets and landscaped grounds to preserve the unique Alton Towers estate.
• Building a high-performing, safety-first technical services team and developing future leaders.

What we’re looking for

• Senior leadership experience in engineering, technical services, or facilities management within a complex, high-footfall environment (e.g., theme parks, airports, resorts, stadiums, hospitals).
• Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical discipline.
• Strong background in contract and supplier management.
• Expert knowledge of H&S legislation, engineering compliance (LOLER, PUWER, PSSR), and statutory testing.
• Proven ability to deliver long-term asset management and capital planning.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable extras:

• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
• Experience in heritage estate management.
• Familiarity with Merlin Entertainments systems and standards.
• Track record of leading sustainability initiatives.
